No workout today, as I am extremely sore from yesterday's AOS Providence workout. My back is terribly tight and sore. I think the reason is that I almost never do military presses or C&P's normally, but yesterday I did a lot of standing MP's with the 24kg, which taxed my lower back terribly.
This brings me to the topic of this post . . . Increased flexibility is definitely something that would benefit me tremendously on the mat, and for my strength training in general. In my personal experience, and from my research, the safest and most productive way to stretch in general is to do active and dynamic warmup stretches before intense physical activity, and to do the deep, reach and hold type stretches after wards. I know what to do to be more flexibile, but I'm very undisciplined about doing following through. I need to make a concerted effort to do some RKC style warmups before my bell workouts, and some deep static stretches, with every workout.
I also thing that this is the reason I'm so sore today. Not only did a lack of general flexibility make me more susceptible to soreness, but by failing to stretch, I passed up an important opportunity to aid in the recovery of my muscles.
This is one more piece in the puzzle, and if I'm good about it, I hope it will pay dividends in the long run.
