Training first half of January, 2014

Some pretty good workouts recently. I skipped neck/grip this past weekend, since grappling has been tiring out those areas pretty well. I'll probably try to still do neck/grip twice monthly now, rather than weekly.

Last week I discovered some new Nautilus Xpload (plate loaded) machines at the gym, which feel pretty good. The should press stinks as usual, but the chest press and pull down are big improvements over the strive machines.

Last week I did this workout:
Chest press (5/5)
Prone Ham Curl (10/10)
Leg Press (5/5)
Pullover (10/10)
Lumbar Extension (5/5)

It was grueling and I enjoyed it alot.

This week, I deadlifted on Tuesday.
All with double overhand grip.
5×115#
5×115#+60# band resistance
5×205#+60# band resistance
3×205#+60# band resistance (wide grip)
3×205#+60# band resistance (snatch grip)
Now with a mixed grip
5×205#+60# band resistance, done 4/4.

This was pretty challenging for my grip. I can’t till if A, I’ve deconditioned my grip from not deadlifting much in a year, or B, my grip is generally cooked from grip training 3x/month and grappling 2x/week (grip work in gi-rolling is highly grip intensive).

Today (thursday) I did a 'big 3'
Xpload Chest Press (5/5)
Xpload Pull Down (10/10)
Strive Leg Press (5/5)

I am enjoying the 5/5 cadence for pushing movements. It feels more natural, given the equipment I'm on, and the training effect feels pretty intense.
